GROWING URBAN HABITATS is a symposium organized to explore the development ideas and design concepts generated by the URBAN HABITATS competition for Sunrise Trailer Park. Competition finalists partnered with nationally recognized professionals will present their projects and ideas towards fulfilling the two-part mission of URBAN HABITATS:

The first is to integrate affordable and market rate housing into a medium-density, mixed-income, mixed-use community. The goal is to generate culturally and climatically responsive architecture through a sustainable continuum, from site development to energy efficient unit operation. That architecture must incorporate compact efficient floor plans that utilize innovative building technologies.

The second is to generate a new set of models for inclusionary community development and green building design to guide non-profit organizations, private developers, or public/private partnerships in the redevelopment of trailer parks while providing affordable housing for the current trailer park residents.

GROWING URBAN HABITATS is offered free of charge to the general public at the University of Virginia School of Architecture, Campbell Hall. Free parking is available in Lot A9 off Rugby Road at Culbreth Road.

Registered attendees will receive a handbook of information on the day of the symposium. Register by email for the symposium at symposium@cvilledesign.org. Please include the name, title, company or school affiliation, mailing address, telephone number and email address of each individual attending.
